I decided that I wanted to make a video to teach people how to do pigpen writing because I like doing it. This video is getting posted today because I was trying to make it good and it took a while. I enjoyed making this video because it was fun to teach people stuff. It was difficult because I wanted music but you could not really hear my voice.

Summer Learning Journey - Pigpen code writing

 

Pigpen writing is used when you want to say something in private to someone. For this activity, we had to work out what the pigpen writing said. When I first saw this I was like, I have no clue what I am doing, it looks too hard but I gave it a go and I found out I like doing pigpen writing. It is lots of fun. Then you had to make your own code. I enjoyed this activity because it is fun to do pigpen and learn how to do it. It was difficult because I did not know what beach I should do a clue on, but then I decided on what beach I wanted to do.

Summer Learning Journey - Sanatas outfit

 

This activity is when you read this book then create your own outfit for Santa. I chose to do a rainy day outfit because the lace I live in always rains. That is how I got the idea. I enjoyed this activity because it was fun to explain why I did it. It was difficult because I had this tiny mouse and drew a huge picture, it took a long time. I hope you like it.

Summer Learning Journey - My Sound Maker

 This activity is when you watch a video about Nanogirl talking about different sounds. Then we had to make our own sound maker. I made a platform then three different sizes in tubes all made out of paper. When I finished making everything, I tested it out to see if it works. It doesn't but at least now I know that it does not work and you do too. We had to make a video about how you make your invention. I enjoyed this activity because it was fun to experiment on how to make sounds. It was difficult to think of something that makes sound and to video it because you can barely hear my voice.

This activity is when you watch a video about a song could, we will rise. Then we got to make our own chorus. I made my chorus about that it is important to be together and better than before. I choose this background because I thought that it would go good with the chorus.

I enjoyed this activity because it was fun to rhyme the words, together and better.

This was hard because I could not find the right background and I was trying to think what this song would be about.

Summer Learning Journey - Haiku Poem

Kia Ora everyone!

This activity is when you watch a video about haiku poems and read an article about haiku poems. A haiku poem is a little poem with three lines and in each line is a number of syllables. A syllable is when you say words in parts, Kate - lyn or a dog is com - ing. The first line must be 5 syllables, the middle line must have 7 syllables and the last line has 5 syllables. I enjoyed this activity because it was fun to make and think about what I should say in my poem. It was difficult to make sure that there was the right amount of syllables for every line.

This activity was fun because it let me learn how different pictures can really be. This activity was difficult because sometimes a picture looked like nothing was different about it. I enjoyed this activity because, on the last slide, we gt to make our own. I choose to draw the pictures because I wanted to do a unicorn but there were not that many unicorn pictures that kind of look the same and because I just wanted to draw something. Summer Learning Journey - Optical Illusion

 

This is another activity for summer learning journey. This activity is all about optical illusions. We had to read about optical illusions then watch a video about optical illusions just so we know more about what they are and how they work. I choose to do this activity on paper. 

I enjoyed this activity because it was lots of fun to learn about optical illusions and get to draw one. It was hard to draw this because I was getting confused about how this optical illusion works. 

It was difficult to draw a straight line because I did not have a ruler, I tried to make it straight, it kind of work but kind of didn't but who cares, at least I tried. 

I think you should do this because it is lots of fun and you get to learn something that you would not normally learn.

I thought that it would be a good idea if I drew it in black pen so you could see it.

Summer Learning Journey - Tānerore

 

For this activity, we had to watch two videos of people doing kapa haka and then someone drawing a kowhaiwhai. You had to draw your own Kowhaiwhai on paper or use a template. I choose to use the template and make a pattern with the koru. I enjoyed this activity because it was fun to draw the kowhaiwhai, choose the background and match it up. I think you should try this, it is lots of fun. It was difficult because when I was watching the people doing the kapa haka the video kept on stopping and restarting. This is a good activity because you get to learn about Tānerore.

Summer Learning Journey - Kick start literacy

 

This is another summer learning journey task. This activity is when you have to read this article (I listened to the article because that was an option) and answer some questions. Then you have to watch this video about two men on a boat then fill in the speech bubbles of what you think they are saying because in the video the men are saying nothing. 

I enjoyed this activity because the summer learning journey always has fun stuff that still makes you learn. It was fun to answer the questions because we normally don't do this at school.

It was difficult to wait because the internet was taking a while to load and I am not that patience but I waited and I am glad I did because it was so much fun. It was difficult to write stuff for Janet because there is only one line in the article about her, But I made it work.

Summer Learning Journy - Art Colouring Book

 

Kia ora Everyone!

I am doing the summer learning journey this year. The summer learning journey is a learning opportunity that you can do over the school holidays. This activity is when you go to this website, when you go on the website there will be lots of different pictures you can choose to colour. When you have selected one of the pictures, you can colour your own version of the picture. When you have finished the picture you have to post it on your blog explaining what different colours you used. I enjoyed this activity because I have never done this before, it was a new thing for me. It was difficult because I did not want the people in the picture but it had to be like that. I suggest that you should try this out because it is lots of fun.

The Three Little Pigs

In class, we have been learning to make comics. We had to make a storyboard about a story we know. I choose to do, The Three Little Pigs. It was the first thing that came into my head. I enjoyed this activity because it was fun to see what you can do with the pictures. It was easier to use this website than drawing it. It was difficult to find the right pictures. There were lots of options to choose from. I think you should try this out too. It is so much fun.

EK News - T-Shpaed Literacy - Activity Five

 For this activity, we had to make an artwork, dance, song, or whatever about whatever you want but it has to tell a story. I choose to do a video about the environment. The story I did was that we need to take care of the environment more. I did this with Eden because we have a show called EK NEWS which stands for EDEN, KATELYN NEWS. I like doing videos with Eden. When we are older, we hope we can have an actual news show. It will be so much fun.

I enjoyed this activity because I like making videos because it is so much fun. When we were recording this video we messed up and a building was walking past and said that it was good. Eden and I were both embarrassed. 

It was difficult to film the video because we kept on messing up, but it was funny. My favorite part about this video is the bloopers because we had so many because we messed up lots, I had to get rid of some bloopers so the video does not go on for so long.

Bird Of The Year

 We did the weekly quiz today and we got to choose what we wanted to make a blog post about. I like it when we get to choose what question we get to research about. I like it when we get to choose what we want to research because people like different things and people think different things are interesting. I thought this question was the most interesting. Yesterday we did the quiz, my group got 10. We did the quiz today because Miss Farr (my teacher) wanted to see what we remembered. We had to do it individually, I got 17 out of 20. I can remember the answers. 

I enjoyed this activity because I got to choose what I wanted to research about.

It was difficult to find lots of information.

Banksy - T-shaped literacy - Activity three

Then we had to make something that tells people what Banksy is. I enjoyed this activity because we got to write lots of stuff and it was interesting. It was difficult to get non-copy writed pictures of his art because google images sometimes had pictures that are nothing related.

I think this a good way to teach people different things and thinking about different things that you would not normally think about. Now I always think about Banksy, is Banksy a girl or boy, what is Banksy's real name and so many different things.

Graffti street art or crime? - T shaped literacy - Activity two

This week we are learning about art and graffiti. We had to read this article (https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/features/graffiti-street-art-ndash-or-crime-868736.html) then answer these questions. What do you think about graffiti? Do you think those men should have been arrested? I think graffiti is a bad thing because you are destroying someone's property. It is ok if you ask them to see if it is ok to make art on someones thing that belongs to the person you are asking. If they said no then don't do it but if they say it is fine then do whatever you want. I think those men should have been arrested because graffiti is a bad thing to do. They should be old enough to know that graffiti is a bad thing to do and you should never do it. It is rude to make art on someones property without their permission. It would be fine if you did it on your own property because you own it.

How to play soccor video

 Hi everyone!

For the past weeks, we have been writing scripts for a game that we want to teach others to play. I chose to do soccer because it is one of my favorite games is soccer. Yes, I know the camera is bleary ut I could not do anything to fix it. If you know how to fix it pls tell me in a comment. 

It was difficult to make this video because people did not listen to me and people were fighting over what roles they wanted to be in. It was a disaster.

I enjoyed this activity because we got to make a video on whatever game we wanted to make it of.

Capture the flag video

 

Kia ora all!

We had to make a video about a game called capture the flag. Capture the flag is a good game, My class and I have played this game lots of times. We made this video so we can teach others how to play this game. I suggest that you should lay this amazing game.

It was fun to make this video because Eden is such a funny person, she kept on saying that she was a calming referee and that she wanted me to say in the credits that the calming referee was Eden but I didn't I just said that she was the referee. 

It was difficult to make this video because we lost some footage of when you have to do 5-star jumps but that is fine. We just had to make this video with what we had.

Activity One - Paintng the town - T shaped literacy - Term 4

 

This week we had to answer 5 questions about art but before we did that we had to read a book all about art in Christchurch. We are doing 5 tasks for T - shaped literacy. After we finish all of the things we need to finish we are going to be doing watercolor. I am super excited because the last time I remember using watercolor was in preschool. 

I enjoyed this activity because I like to read and I liked to answer these types of questions because they have to get you thinking a bit more than the questions we usually have to answer. 

It was difficult to fit all of the information on the page, I had to get rid of a picture and explaining what we are doing.

Toi moko

 

Kia ora all!

We did the weekly quiz for this week. We had to go in our house colours. My house colour (Kōwhai) only had three people, Lucy, Luke and I. The rest of our group went to athletics. We got 9/20. It is probably the best we have done. But we still came last but that is fine because at least we tried.

I enjoyed this activity because it was interesting to learn about what is a toi moko. I had no clue what a toi moko was but now I do. A toi moko is art on someone or somethings face. (there is more information about what a toi moko is in the picture at the top.

It was difficult to research about toi moko because there wasn't that much information about what a toi moko is but I just had to work with what information I could find. 

I like doing the weekly quiz because I get to learn something that I never really would have thought of researching.

We had 1 hour to create the picture at the top and blog it. It was hard but I got it done.

Our coral reefs are dying

 

Kia ora all!

Today we did the weekly quiz we do every week. This week Miss Farr choose the topic of the coral reefs that are dying. We had to go in our house groups for this quiz. My team got 7 out of 20. The quiz is really hard. The thing that was difficult for me was that we only had 30 minutes to do this. At first, I thought the topic Miss Farr choose was not interesting but it actually is. I enjoyed this activity because now I know I bit more about what is going on in the world. It's crazy that we might not have these coral reefs for a while because of pulltion and other stuff. Just read the picture at the top of this blog post to find out more. 

I think other schools should do the same thing we do, do a quiz, pick a question that is inresting then research it. It is so much fun.

Soccer

 Soccer

In the 19th century, England started kicking a ball on the field and now that is the famous soccer that we have today.

Half a game of soccer is 45 minutes, It is 90 minutes for a whole soccer game. The teams have to have the same amount of people. If there are more people in one team, people will have to have turns on the field.

To play soccer you need:

- 1 soccer ball

- 2 soccer goals

- color T-shirts that are two different colors

- Play on a field not concrete

 You can't touch the ball with your hands, you use your feet to move the ball in soccer. Only the goalie can touch the ball with their hands but they have to be in the goalie box.

The aim of the game is to get the ball in the goal. If you get the ball in the goal your team gets a point. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

You can trick the other team by pretending to go left but go right for one of your teammates to get a goal. If you are the goalie you should get away from the goal but still in the goalie box so if one of the players from the other team, you can go dive and get the ball off them to stop them from getting a goal.

Participating and contributing

 

Today when the year 7s were at tech, Miss Farr said that we had to pick one of the key competencies We had the choice of relating to others, managing self or participating and contracting. I choose participating and contributing because it sounded like the most interesting one to me. Then we had to make a DLO about what we choose. A DLO stands for digital learning object. 

I enjoyed this activity because I got to choose what I was going to make, I made a slide show.

It was difficult to do this because there were no photos about participating and contributing that can be used.

A green dog named pistacchio

 

Today we did a quiz. My group got 6 out of 20. The quiz is really hard. After the whole class did the quiz Miss Farr (our teacher) said we have to research and put it on our blog about one of the questions. I choose to do the mysterious green dog because I love animals and it is crazy that a dog can turn colors in the wound.

I enjoyed this activity because it wasn't how we do the quiz thing because Miss Farr usually picks one of the questions from the quiz and pick one that is interesting to her. 

It was difficult because we only had 30 minutes to do this.

I enjoyed this activity because I thought if I was a bad or a good sports player. I found out I was a bit of both because sometimes I get out of control.

I enjoyed this activity because it was easy and fun because it made me think about the book more, and how much time Maurice Gee (the author) spent on this story.

It was difficult to make the questions in our own words but it was easy to make the answer our own words because there wasn't even anything that we could copy.

EK News Video About The Ohau Fire

 

Kia ora all!

Today we had to do 20 questions about what is happening in the news. After that Miss Farr (my teacher) chose one of the questions that sounded interesting. She said we had found everything about the Ohau fire. After we got all our research we could either make a news report or be a news reporter with a buddy or not. I did a news video with Eden. Which one would you pick?

I enjoyed this activity because it was funny because we kept on messing up in funny ways.

It was difficult to decide where we were sitting and when we found where we were sitting, we had to bring the table and chairs. Miss Farr said that whoever has the best video or news report gets 10 minutes of free time, she said if you work with another person you both get 10 minutes free time so Eden and I worked together.

This activity was so much fun.

I think other classes should do this as well.

Exploring the character - under the moutain - novel study

 

Kia Ora all. 

In term 3 Miss Farr (my teacher) said we had to read this novel called under the mountain by Maurice Gee. She gave us a list of things to do will we read or have finished this book. This activity is when you have to create pictures of the main characters, which are Rachel and Theo. Then write information about the main characters. 

I enjoyed this activity because I got to make a picture that looked like the main characters.

I thought getting information was hard because I forgot some information in the book so I had to find the right information about what I want to write.

Bridge Valley Camp 2020

Introduction:

We went to bridge valley adventure center for camp this year. The weather was sunny on Tuesday and Wednesday but Thursday was spiting. I was in a car with Brent, (Mekas Dad) Eden, Hunter, Lacklan, Meka and Carlos. We sang the whole way there. It was so much fun. I had Clara, Gabby, Harley, Harry, Harrison, Gus, Hunter, Carlos and Caiden in my group for all of the activities.

Tuesday

When we got there they told us some boring but important rules. Then we got into our cabin. I was in a cabin with Eden, Meka, Tahlia, Clara and Emily. All the girls wanted the top bunk but Eden and I didn't care. I did low ropes and team initiatives. Low ropes was boring because we had to wait for everyone to be finished. Team initiatives was hard but fun. After we finished I went down a little scary black slide 5 times. I was aiming for 6 but I was freezing to death. After I went into the pool with Meka. When it started to get boring we got out. So we went back to our cabin to put our clothes on. After we went on the playground and that's where Eden was. We played for a long time, we also went to the mini-golf. At six o clock, we had to get our PJs on. Then we had to go to the main building so we can have dinner. We had spaghetti, meatballs with rice and some vegetables. In my opinion, I thought the rice and spaghetti were raw because it was hard. After dinner, we played two games of spotlight. Eden, Meka and I hi in the same spot every time. After spotlight we had to come to the main building to eat and drink some milo and cookie. After, we had to go in our cabins and get ready for bed. There was no space to brush our teeth because it was only a little sink in a little corner. When we were finished brushing our teeth, Miss Farr came in asking who wants braids, I said no thank you because before I left home to go to the school for a long ride ahead, my mum put my hair in french braids. When Miss Farr left we went into bed and slept.

Wednesday

It's now the second day of camp. When it was like 5:00am the people in my cabin woke me up. I was so tired and just wanted to go back to sleep but  I couldn't because when I am up I can't go back to sleep. I had o get up because I needed to put my hearings aids in so I could hear what they were saying. It was a struggle getting out of bed because I am not a morning person. When I finally got out of bed everyone was already dressed. I got dressed then I was just sitting on the spare bed with all of our stuff on it with Eden while he others tried to go to the playground. After a few minutes, the others started running in and laughing. Eden and I were so confused. Miss Farr came in a few minutes later telling us that we need to be quiet because Trish was still sleeping. After a long time of all of us girls talking, Clara, Emily and Tahlia went back outside, I followed and found out that we are allowed to go in the main building to talk because people were still sleeping and you can hear through the walls. When we got into the building, Miss Farr said that breakfast is in one hour. After an hour passed it was breakfast time. I had toast with raspberry jam Lucy got a bowel of fruit so I got that after finished my toast because I thought that looked yum. When my friends and I were done our food we went back to the cabin to brush our teeth. When we were finished brushing our teeth they told us the first activity we had to do for today. The first activity that my group had to do was orienteering.orintering is when you have a map with numbers on it and there is numbers hidden around the camp. You have to try and use the map with a compass to try and find all of the numbers. I thought that orienteering was really boring because we didn't really do anything but just walk around trying to find numbers. My group was Gabby and Caiden. We got lost at one point. The next activity was team resue. team resue is when you have a 'person'on a wooden stretcher, you and your team have to take the 'person' to the other side. While you go through the course there is going to be obsoletes to face. You or the 'person' is not allowed to touch the ground because if you do you get points taken off your team. I thought this activity was very hard but fun. The next activity was the Burma trail. The Burma trail is when you are blindfolded and you have to hold on a rope walking through a trail. It was scary because the adults scared us even though they said they won't. The last activity for Wednesday was laser tag. Laser tag was so much fun. At the end of the last game, the other team were gaining up on me. My team (red team) won twice and the other team won once. When all of the teams were finished their activities we got a choice to go down the big blue slide into the lake. When you go down you have to sit on this mat, I don't know why. The first time I went down the slide I was so scared. On the second time I went down, I went with Eden. When we were going down the slide, Eden fell off the mat so I had to hold Eden and the mat so we don't lose it. After that, we felt too cold to do it again so we went in the pool and that's were Meka was. After a while, Lisa said that if we want a donut we will have to have a shower and get dressed. So we ran to our cabin to have a shower and get dressed. The donuts were from Lukes Uncle. We sat on the rap and ate our donuts together. After a little Miro G accidentally kicked me on the nee, I already had a store there so it started to bleed. Miro G and I went to Miss Farr. Miss Farr had that look on her face that she was annoyed at me because I always do something for me to end up hurt. Miss Farr put a plaster on it then said that I should just walk on it. We played and talked and had fun until Miss Farr said that dinner will be ready and we need to put our PJs on. We had butter chicken for dinner. After dinner it was dark so we did the Burma trail, they said if we want we could do the Burma trail but the adults were going to scare us. It wasn't really that scary because I heard my other classmates talking and saw flashlights on. When we got back, we had milo and cookies. After that, we had to get ready for bed, This night I waited for everyone to finish brushing their teeth then I went so I could have the sink to myself. Mis Farr came in saying that we need to go to sleep now.

Thursday

Good morning everyone. Last night was so cold but I'm fine. When I got up I put my hearing aids in and sat on the spare bed. After a little, we got dressed then we talked to each other. When we starting to get hungry we went into the main building to have some breakfast but it wasn't ready until 8:30am yet. So we just played inside games. Finally, it's breakfast time! I had cereal and fruit. We went back to our cabin when we finished because we needed to brush our teeth. Our first activity was kayaking. I nearly fell in so many times but I saved myself. The first kayak I was using was sinking so I had to get a different kayak. I got wet so I had to put different clothes on. The next activity was archery. I have never done archery before but I guess I can say I have done it before now. On my last time, I finally hit the target, I hit the white bit. I got bit by so many sandflies so many times even though I had bug spray. The next activity was fire and damper. Fire and damper wasn't that fun because you have to wait for the fire to start and we were doing this in the rain. The damper wasn't that yummy but it was fine. The last activity for the whole camp was, drum roll, please................ Abseiling! Abseiling is when you go through a maze up this tower then when you finish the maze you should be at the top. People thought the maze was hard but I thought t was really easy. When I was going down, I jumped and spun around but then I hit the wall. Carlos was in the tower by the door and when I came down I jumped then I kicked the door which means I kicked Carlos. After Abseiling, we played on the playground and play mini-golf. I went down the black slide 11 times. On the 11th time I was so old it felt like I had hypothermia so I went in the pool and that is where I found Meka. Meka and I played until it was getting boring. We had a shower and got dressed. After, we played tag with Eden. Later we had dinner. When we were finished our dinner the adults told us that we have to do something because we had to do a concert. My group had to do little red riding hood but we did it with our own little twist. I personality think that my group was the best. I was little red riding hood. It was funny because we had a lunchbox as a basket and I accidentally broke the handle. Don't worry we fixed it. The other groups did dance, mouthing and comedy. After the concert we put our PJs on then we had to get ready for bed.

It is the last day of camp. I didn't want to wake up. Last night was a rough night because everyone kept moving which made noise, the girls next door kept banging on the wall. But at least I got some sleep, right? I didn't get up until all the adults came in and scared us. Miss Farr woke me up by scaring me because I was out to it. I had to get dressed. We had to start packing up our stuff until it was breakfast. I had every type of cereal and fruit. When we were finished we had to tidy u our cabin. When we were all finished packing up, we played a game called get fresh. We had one final check before leaving. I was sad to go but I was excited to see my family. We drove for 1 hour then we stopped at a park where everyone else was. After playing around we went back on the road. After about two hours we were going over a bridge then we heard, POP! We pulled over to see what happened, sure enough, we had a flat tire. It was my idea to try and get a ride from another classmate's car, but that didn't work because when they passed we gave a sign saying for us to be picked up but they just waved at us. It took nearly an hour to fix the tire. When we finally came to school everyone was gone. When we got home, I gave my family a BIG hug.

Refugee camps

 

Today when the year 7s were at tech we did this quiz about things that are happening or happened in the world. I got 4 out of 15 (I never watch the news). Miss Farr (My teacher) picked one that sounded interesting. She chose refugee camps. I enjoyed this activity because there were lots of websites that had some information so it was easy. It was difficult to put lots of information but also for people to read it. I think other schools should try to do this with their class because you can learn something new every week. Miss Farr said that if we like doing this then we are going to do something like this every week but with a different subject each time.

For the past two weeks, we have been reading a book called The Andes. Then we had to research about the Andes. When we got our information we had to write notes. After that, we had to percent it somehow. I choose to do it in a google drawing.

Predicton - About a book - Under the mountain

Today Miss Farr (our teacher) told us that for the next 3 weeks we are going to be reading a book called under the mountain. We had to look at the front of the book and try to predict what the book is about. Then we had to do the same thing but read the back of the book. After that, we have to look on the first page to see what the author is like.
I enjoyed this activity because I like to read books and because it is something we don't normally do.
It was difficult to guess what the book was about looking at the fount because I literally have no information about the book.

Electricity Experiment

Today my class and I, we watched a video about electricity. After that, we made a table that zero volts, 1.5 volts and 3.0 volts.
A volt or voltage is electricity that meats with the current. The higher the voltage the more bright the light would be.

We had to predict what would happen then we had to make a current to make light.
The table is our prediction and result sheet. We need this so we can record our information.

I thought 0 voltage would be nothing because it is not hocked up to anything. I thought that 1.5 voltage was going to have light but not much because it has something connected to it but only 1 battery. I thought that 3.0 voltage was going to be really bright because it has 2 batteries.

We have these little kits that can make a circuit. First, we had no batteries then we had 1 battery and finally 2 batteries.

I enjoyed this activity because we got to make a circuit easily.
It was difficult to write what everything is.

Water Quality write up

On Monday we went to the creek near our school. We wanted to see if our creek is healthy or not. I enjoyed this activity because it was something different than we normally never do and because we got to wear mufti. It was difficult because the water was cold and one of the equipment broke. 

It would be a lovely idea if you are a teacher and looking for a science experiment.

My information text

My Information text!

This week my teacher made us write notes about 3 different articles. Then write an information text with the notes. I enjoyed this activity because it was something I have not learned about before. It was difficult to write all of the information in my own words. It took me a long time to write this information text so I hope you like it! There is also a book called bright fine gold that Miss Farr read to us and said to take notes. But I sadly can't get a picture because it is not labeled for use. Maybe next time. :(

Article 1:

Gabriel Read got famous when he found gold near the Tuapeka River. 

The Otago provincial government offered £1000 dollars in a reward for the discovery of payable quantities of gold. His discovery of gold made the country’s first major gold rush. 

Article Two:

10 presents were from gold. The gold is found in the river and mud. He just found it on the floor. It was the first major gold rush in south lonuce. They didn’t get enough vitamin c.

Article 3:

Gold was found in waterways in the 1850s.

Rewards for finding gold were offered from the 1860s.

Gold was £10 million dollars compared with £3.57 million dollars from wool, and that means gold is way more valuable than wool.

Book:

Gabriel Read found gold in his pan. They went to Dunedin, there were a few roads in Otago. Miners had to go on rough tracks to reach Gabriel's gully. When they were there, they lived in tents and/or sacks. Some lived in caves as well. The weather was bad, especially in the winter. By Christmas, ten thousand miners were in Australia and California. They were usually the first ones to find gold. They had powerful hoses that could wash away hillsides. Maori had no use for gold.

The Word of the Week - Devour

This Week the word is devour. I thought it meant when someone eats food and I was correct for the first time in forever.  It took me a long time to write all of the synonyms and the antonyms. I enjoyed this activity because I actually got the meaning right.

This week the word is ominously. I thought that the word ominously meant something that was big. At first, I found no synonyms but I didn't give up. It took a long time until I found some. I could only find 3 antonyms. I enjoyed this activity because the word was from the book we are reading. It was difficult to find a picture of ominously.

Word of the week

This week the word is egregious. I thought egregious was something dangerous, but it's actually something extremely bad. I couldn't find a picture, so I made a picture using shapes.  I enjoyed making the picture because I normally never make a picture for the word of the week. It took a long time to write all of the synonyms because there is so many.

Africa

Today, when the year 7's (seven's) are at tech, Ngahere came to our class to learn about the 7 continent. Miss Farr (my teacher) put us in groups then give each group a continent. My group got Africa! First, we had to reach search about our continent then write it on a piece of paper. When we have all of our facts we had to write our facts on our Chromebooks. I enjoyed this activity because I learnt some new stuff about Africa, I now also know all of the continents. It was difficult to fit all of the information in one square.

Water Worries

Some people don't even realize that water is such an important everyday thing.
After the Christchurch earthquakes, people have been very precious with their water and have realized that water is a very important resource. In the past, we didn’t use as much water as we do now. We get our water from lakes, streams, rivers, and even on top of our roofs in drains. Some water gets trapped by rocks, that's called groundwater. We don't see groundwater, you can't tell if it’s there or not but it's there. New water is never coming in, and no water is going out.
When we are brushing our teeth or drinking water, you could be drinking water from hundreds and thousands of years ago! (that's when the dinosaurs were here!)
Now every time you get some water from the tap, don't pour it down the drain because it’s the only water we got.


This week we had to read a book about water. We had to write an information report about water. It was cool when I learned that some water could be in this world for way more than only a couple of years. I am just amazed.
It was difficult to plan this writing because I lost my planning sheet.

Today we had to get the poem we made yesterday and make another. We had to write ten (10) things we liked the most about the poem we did yesterday. then we had to say what things they do. I enjoyed making this poem because it didn't take a day to doa and because we didn't have to rhyme anything. It was difficult to make described words.

This week miss Farr made us make a poem. My poem is about my childhood. We had to right in five boxes about something in our lives. You had to put action, objects, quotes, people and animals. My favorite part is the end part because it says that is that. (which means the poem is over). It was hard to rhyme everything.

What I thought about the Matariki quiz

After I completed the quiz I had to write 3 things I learned from the quiz.
I enjoyed the quiz because it taught me something that I did not know about Matariki.
I got 6/10 correct.

Today we had to pick something from the blog contract. This Friday (we do a blog contract every Friday) I choose the question, should kids be allowed to chew gum in school. I enjoyed doing this activity because it was quick and easy to do. I found this hard because I have never really thought about this question before.

My letter to past self

My letter to past self

To past Katelyn.

I am now finally at school again with all of my friends. We are in level 2 right now. At school we have to sanitize our hands. I wish that covid19 was never here. On the first day of lockdown I was so scared and I didn’t know what was coming. My family and I only shopped only online. We talked to my friends and family on the phone. Every morning at 9:30am the whole class goes on hangouts. Miss Farr tells us what to do for the whole day. Our activities are still on the class site where they are usually. If we missed the meeting Miss Farr would record it and put it on the class site.  I was in lockdown with my Mum, my Dad, my brother Jason and my cute little dog Max. When we were eating dinner we watched the news and found out that we were going in level 4. I had know clue what level 4 meant. My Mum and Dad said the level 4 means that we have to stay in our house for 6 weeks! When we found out that we were going in level 3 I was so excited. We are finally free from lockdown. My family and I still shop from online only. We don’t go out much, Mum and Dad take turns going to work. My Mum goes to work while my Dad looks after me and Jason. When my Mum comes home from work Dad goes to work.

Area of Irregular Shapes

Today for maths I learned about irregular shapes. Before I started this activity I had to watch this video. Irregular shapes are not like triangles and squares. Irregular shapes have different parts. The parts have numbers around the shape. You have to times (x) the numbers.
The thing that I enjoyed about this activity was the question's from 1 to 4 because they were the easiest. the last 6 questions were harder. I was getting confused about the last 2 questions because they had grey shapes in the shape.

My Ecosystem

Today I had to make an ecosystem. An ecosystem has bacteria, rain, animals and plants. Like the world. My ecosystem has snails, ants, worms, plants, dirt and soil. My ecosystem also has a lake. I am very proud of my ecosystem. I enjoyed making the ecosystem because I am doing something new! It was difficult finding the animals. The thing I did to solve this problem was, to put my ecosystem outside for the animals to come. (It worked!) I went outside and saw a snail going to my ecosystem, I thought about how snails are slow, so I got 2 leaves to help it out.

Today for literacy I had to watch a video then we answered these questions. I added something else for fun. There is a website about the Great Ocean Clean Up. The thing that felt the difficulty was to answer the question, how have people influences the pacific ocean. I felt proud of myself when I finished this activity.

Possums

Today for literacy I had to read a book about possums. I could either draw or create something with possums. I choose to draw the things that eat possums and a possum. When I took a picture of my drawings you can't see the writing so I had to write over it. This is the second time of me drawing a possum before in my life because once at school I had to draw a possum for my activity, the possum was on a tree. Sorry, I can't show you a picture because I don't know where the picture is, it was years ago.

 I am so happy! You might be wondering why I am so happy. I am happy because I got a hoverboard! I was so excited when it came in the mail. I saved up for a long time for this. We ordered it a week ago and got it a week later. I thought It was going to take months to get here. But NOPE.

My Mum and Dad brought this New Zealand puzzle from the Warehouse. We did it in one day. The puzzle is 500 hundred pieces. The thing that I enjoyed the most was at the start when Jason and I tried to find where we have lived. The thing that was the most challenging for me was doing the puzzle.

Fractions to decimals

Today I had to make fractions to decimals. The that was the most difficult for me was to convert fractions to decimals. The thing that I enjoyed the most was when I got it finished. I am glad my Dad helped me to understand this because without him I would not know what to do. 

Cheese Scones

Today my Mum and I made cheese scones. We made this video so we can teach you how to make cheese scones. You can put anything on your scones, It doesn't have to be cheese ontop. Like, bacon, dates, savory, onion, and tomato. It can even be nothing. The thing that felt difficult for me was to record the video. When you put the scones in the oven you need to be supervised by an adult. The thing that I enjoyed the most was editing the video because it was really easy. I also enjoyed making it mostly all by myself.

What I am grateful for

I am grateful for all of the people who fought in world war 1 and 2. (they risked their lives for us)

I am grateful for my Mum and Dad because they work so hard so we can have a house, food, clothes and sooo much more.

I am grateful for The ambulance, police and firefighters because they help us all.

Facemask

  

Today My Mum and I put a facemask on our face and cucumbers on our eyes. We didn't keep the cucumbers on our eyes because they kept falling off. When the facemask dried on my face, I couldn't even smile. I really enjoyed this because I have never done this before. I have only put cucumbers on my eyes so this was really cool for me. I thought I was smiling in this photo.

Grandmas old house

Today for literacy we had to make a story about the past. I wrote about my Grandma's old house. When I say a bird that's chirping tells us it's 12:00 pm I mean the old father's cuckoo clock. 
The thing that I felt the most difficult for me was this caption. The thing that I enjoyed about this activity was that it reminded me about when I was little.

Spider Hedgehog Hunt - For The Juniors

Today Miss Highgate (The principle) had a mission for the seniors. I wanted to do the mission. The mission is, that the seniors had to read a book to the juniors on camera. I read, Spider Hedgehog Hunt. The thing that was the most difficult for me was to see the words in the book and flip the pages. The thing that I enjoyed was getting to kind of read to little kids again. The thing that was the easiest for me was to read the words because I have been reading chapter books all self isolation with hard words.

Today For literacy I had to make a newspaper article about my grandma. (or any grandparent) The thing that was the most difficult for me was taking a picture because it didn't let me take a whole picture.
